From martial arts instructor to inspired adventurer, this is how Triumph reignited Annette’s fire
In 2013, Annette Mayor walked away from her long-time passion: TaeKwonDo.
She had been both a student and instructor, but a combination of family issues and problems at her school led her to step away.
“After that, I lost my rhythm. I worked out here and there, but without a coach or community, I didn’t push myself. My energy dipped, my muscles softened, and mentally—I just didn’t feel like myself.”
Over the next few years, she tried just about everything:
🛑 Running — not for her
🛑 Yoga — got bored
🛑 Lifting — didn’t feel safe without guidance
Then, she saw her neighbor jogging — not just lean, but strong.
“She said she was doing CrossFit at Triumph. I decided to go with her one Saturday. It was tough, but I was hooked.”
The environment gave her exactly what she’d been missing:
- Coaches who pushed her with care (shoutout to Coach Mark!)
- Workouts that were different every day
- A community that encouraged instead of judged
- A spark that brought her body and mind back to life
And what happened next?
“I started doing more than just working out. I challenged myself. For my 60th birthday, I jumped out of a plane. I now go scuba diving regularly. I’m applying for the Newport Aquarium’s dive team. I’ve gone on mission trips to Kenya, Ghana, Austria… and next, I’m going to Tanzania on safari.”
Annette has her eyes on Antarctica and the Galápagos Islands next.
And it all started by showing up to one class at Triumph.
“The workouts stimulate me physically and mentally. I don’t RX everything. I can’t do toes to bar or climb a rope. But I feel GOOD. And I plan to keep going.”
Her message to you:
“DO IT. JOIN. Age is just a number. You’ll see results fast, and the coaches will guide you every step of the way.”
“Feeling good about your body makes you want to go out and challenge life. And that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
