HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR COMMUNITY!

Welcome Joy Collins to the Staff

Over the last couple of weeks you may have seen one of our longtime athletes wearing her coaching shoes. Joy has been a part of the Triumph family since it’s inception in 2013. Since then Joy has been an integral part of our community and in 2022 she’s joining us as a staff member. We asked her some questions and she was gracious enough to answer them below.

  1. Where are you from?
I grew up in Crestview Hills, Ky. and currently live in the house I grew up in.
  2. What is your training background?
I played 3 sports in high school, soccer, basketball and track. I attended the University of Louisville on a soccer scholarship. Once I graduated, I went searching for something to do that kept me competitive. I started running and have completed 7 full marathons and countless 5Ks. Then I found Crossfit and now have added weightlifting to my training.
  3. Who inspires you and why?
My own children inspire me to be a better person. I want to be the best mom to Zoe and Tison.
  4. What’s a book everyone should read?
I have so many but Uninvited by Lysa Terkeurst helped me during a difficult time in my life.
  5. What is your perfect cheat meal?
Bourbon House Chicago style pizza, a side of garlic knots and a DQ Reese Cup blizzard for dessert.
  6. What do you like most about training others?
Well being new, I love seeing someone understand the movement and make improvements. Knowing that I am helping someone get better is rewarding.
  7. What big-picture issue do you want to work toward?
I want to help other women who are struggling with nutrition, weight and body image. Knowing that you are not alone and that there are others who have had the same struggle can be comforting. I want to help as many women as possible over come this struggle.
  8. What do you foresee being the next major milestone(s) in your career?
I will be retiring from teaching soon. After retiring from teaching, I am looking to expand my coaching through Crossfit and nutrition.
  9. What’s one area you’d like to grow in that you currently find challenging?
Why do you find it challenging? Motivating others to create a healthy lifestyle through nutrition and exercise. I find it difficult because it takes getting to know someone in depth to discover what motivates them. It is also hard to sustain motivation in the long run. Keeping someone motivated long enough to develop discipline can be difficult.
  10. What are you looking forward to the most at Triumph?
Meeting even more members and developing relationships with everyone. As a current member, I stick to a pretty consistent schedule in the gym. Being able to meet others who attend during different times will be a great!
  11. What certifications, education or training do you currently hold (fitness based or otherwise)?
I am currently an elementary teacher. Previous experience as a principal of an elementary school. So I know how to manage groups! Fitness based, I currently hold my Level 1 Crossfit certification.
