It’s currently pouring down rain right now. The overhead power lines are crackling as raindrops bounce off the rubber coating. Sending little pops of electricity turned into sound. It’s humid and frankly gross out. My shoes are already soaking through as most minimalist shoes are, well, minimalist. Providing little to no protection from moisture.
I pulled into my normal spot in the parking lot. A right turn into the lot and a quick left to one of the last three spots in the back. A long time ago we started parking in the back of the lot. Not as a way to “get more steps in” or to look really really cool carrying in all our stuff for the day. It’s a way to show our appreciation for you. You are the reason we are able to do what we love on a daily basis. You are the reason we happily open our doors every day at 5:00 AM. You are the reason we’re able to help others.
What are we showing as a staff if we’re taking the first spots in the lot every day? That we are more important than you. That we put ourselves above you. That our day holds more value than yours. A point that is simply untrue. One of our four core values at Triumph is gratitude. Taking the last spot is just a small way to show how much we appreciate each and every one of you. The equivalent of holding the door for someone as they walk up behind you, putting your shopping cart away or waving someone on at a stop sign. Thank you for being a part of our home, it means the world to us.
